Film in Languages Teaching Association (FILTA) was founded in 2009 by Dr Carmen Herrero (Manchester Metropolitan University, UK), Dr Isabelle Vanderschelden (Manchester Metropolitan University, UK), Ana Valbuena (Instituto Cervantes, Manchester, UK) and Jessica Frye (Manchester Metropolitan University, UK).
FILTA is an association of language and film teachers and researchers devoted to promote languages through film. Our design-based model of research requires teachers and students to participate as co-researchers.

Contemporary Spanish Cinema; Star Studies and Gender; Ramón Gómez de la Serna and the Spanish Avant-garde; Modern and Contemporary Spanish Theatre; and Contemporary Spanish Literature.
Other Information
Having supervised a Ph D on Contemporary Spanish Theater (Teatro español de autoria femenina en el umbral del nuevo milenio: identidad individual, genérica y colectiva en la dramaturgia de Yolanda Pallín), she has supervised PhD theses on: The ‘Generation X’ and Post-modern Paradigm in Spanish Culture of the 1990s; The Cinema of Julio Medem; Region and Nation in Contemporary Spanish Cinema; and Time, Memory and the Human Gaze in the Films of José Luis Guerin and Marc Recha.

Contemporary French cinema and (literary) translation studies.
Current Projects
Dr Vandershelden is currently working on projects in the areas of contemporary French cinema, transnational popular films and comedy. She is writing a critical study on Le fabuleux Destin d'Amelie Poulain (Jeunet 2001) for IB Tauris, and editing a volume on French popular cinema for Cambridge Scholars Press. She has contributed chapters on ‘Les Visiteurs' in The Cinema of France, Wallflower (2005); ‘Bernard Tavernier: militant, cinéaste et emmerdeur' Cinéma et Engagement, L'Harmattan (2004); articles on Jamel Debbouze In Studies in French Cinema (2005) and a study guide section on ‘French Cinema' in Non-Hollywood Cinema, (Auteur, 2004)
Dr Vandershelden is also interested in the representation of immigration in the 1990s and contemporary French popular stars.
She was co-organizer for the Crossing Borders conference held at MMU in September 2004, and jointly with Manchester University for the ‘Representations of Popular French Cinema' international Conference in January 2006.
